Adviser to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Md Nahid Islam asked the representatives of Banglalink to launch unlimited internet packages considering the needs of the people.
The adviser said this during a meeting with a Banglalink delegation at the office of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications on Wednesday.
Nahid, one of the leaders of the movement that toppled the previous Awami League-led government, emphasized the need for mobile operators to offer unlimited internet packages in this day and age, particularly to meet the demands of the younger generation, along with reducing prices.
By 'unlimited package', the adviser meant packages allowing unlimited use at a certain price.
When Kaan Terzioglu, Chief Executive Officer of VEON Group, the multinational telecommunications company that owns Banglalink, raised the issue of lowering SIM card taxes in Bangladesh, the adviser said that the Ministry of Finance is involved with this issue, so they have to discuss it with them.
Terzioglu also expressed his company's interest in investing further in the country.
Regarding the various restrictions on the popular app Toffee, the adviser assured that the issues would be addressed.
