The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has returned the body of a Bangladeshi youth, Ershadul Haque, who had been missing for over 40 days, at the Nakugaon border under Nalitabari upazila of Sherpur.
The body was handed over on Friday afternoon in the presence of BSF and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel and police, said Nalitabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Sanowar Hossain
Ershadul, son of Mojibur Rahman from Apurakhata village in Kurigram's Ulipur upazila, reportedly crossed into India illegally on October 5.
According to family and local sources, he had told his family he was going to the market but instead crossed the Ulipur border. Tragically, Ershadul died from electrocution after entering India.
His disappearance prompted the family to file a general diary at the Ulipur Police Station. Weeks later, they identified him through a photograph of a dead body circulating on social media. After the family contacted the Indian High Commission, legal formalities were completed, and arrangements were made for the return of his remains.
Further legal procedures are being followed before the body is officially handed over to the family for burial, the OC added.
