Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Tuesday asked his party, including ministers, lawmakers, leaders and activists to not engage in any activity that can tarnish even the appearance of impartiality of the upcoming Upazila elections.
“An organizational instruction is being given to the party MPs including ministers and leaders-activists of Bangladesh Awami League not to be involved in any kind of illegal interference in the election and activities that can spoil the neutrality of the election,” he said in a statement.

Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said the Election Commission has already announced the schedule for the first two phases of the Upazila Parishad elections, which are held over six phases. This election will also be held in a fair, peaceful and impartial manner, he said.
“Ministers, MPs will not have any chance to interfere here. The administration including law enforcement agencies who are engaged in conducting the election will also maintain cent percent neutrality. If anyone makes illegal inference, legal action will be taken against the person,” he said.
BNP main barrier to implement democratic ideals: Quader
The AL general secretary said though Awami League leaders and activists are participating in this election, its electoral symbol (Boat) is not allotted to anyone.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed her conviction to extend full cooperation to the Election Commission in conducting the election in a fair and peaceful atmosphere, he said.

“In the upcoming Upazila Parishad elections, there will be a clear reflection of the public mandate and the voters will cast their votes smoothly,” said Quader.
In this context, he cited that the 12th parliamentary election was held in a peaceful and impartial atmosphere on January 7, 2024, which is a milestone in the democratic journey of Bangladesh.
