Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. A.F.M. Khalid Hossain has emphasized that Islamic scholars serve as beacons of society.
“They radiate light, guiding people toward the path of righteousness. The role of the clerical community is crucial in establishing an ideal state,” he said during a discussion on the role of Islamic scholars (Ulama) in promoting communal harmony and preventing corruption.
The event took place at the Al Jamiatul Islamia Al-Azizia Anwarul Uloom Madrasa ground in Hili, Hakimpur Upazila, Dinajpur.
Dr. Khalid highlighted the close connection between clerics and the public, noting that Bangladesh is home to approximately 350,000 mosques. He urged that this engagement be harnessed for nation-building.

He underscored the importance of madrasas, stating that Islam has thrived due to these institutions. “During Ramadan, mosques are filled with worshippers. No Islamic scholars engage in corruption or embezzle public money,” he remarked, calling on clerics to take the lead in fostering a corruption-free society.
Dr. Khalid also acknowledged the vital role of madrasa teachers, asserting that no one can achieve greatness without the guidance of a mentor. He encouraged madrasa students to broaden their horizons, stating that while talent is a divine gift, it must be complemented by good manners, as rudeness can lead to the downfall of even the most talented individuals.
The meeting was presided over by Madrasa Director General Maulana Shamsul Huda Khan, with local ulama and Adviser Private Secretary Sadeq Ahmad in attendance.
Later, Dr. Khalid participated in an Islamic conference organized by the Ulama Mashayekh Parishad at the Birampur Pilot High School ground.
