A 16-year-old scheduled to sit for his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams this year was allegedly murdered by a group of perverted harassers for protesting their harassment of some of his female classmates in Sreenagar upazila of Munshiganj on Friday.
Nirob Hossain, 16, was the son of late Delowar Hossain of Chandpur district, and registered as an examinee from Kamargaon Alhaj Kazi Fazlul Hoque High School in Sreenagar
The victim’s mother has been living with her two sons including the examinee following the death of her husband in Khaiyam Befari Bari in Kamargaon area.
Police and locals said there was an annual sports competition and prize giving ceremony in the school on Thursday.
Some scoundrels of Mugdal area in Baghra union harassed the girls during the programme.
An altercation broke out between Nirob and the harassers when he sought them out and protested their disgusting conduct. That first encounter petered out and he returned to his school premises.
But the gang of harassers came back equipped with locally-made sharp weapons, and attacked Nirob mercilessly just 100 yards from his school around 4:30pm, inflicting multiple stab wounds before leaving the scene, according to locals in the area.
He was rushed to Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex, but physicians declared him dead upon arrival.
Confirming the matter, Sreenagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdullah Al-Tayabir said they sent the body to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.
Efforts were on to arrest those who were involved with the incident and a legal process was also taking shape in this connection, he added.
