Bandarban district administration has reimposed a ban on tourist movement in Thanchi upazila from January 11 to 17, as a security measure amid the ongoing drive against extremists.
A public notice signed by Bandarban Deputy Commissioner Yeasmin Tibriji was issued in this regard on Monday.

With this, tourists are currently banned in three of the seven upazilas of Bandarban due to the anti-extremist drive.
On October 17, the administration imposed an indefinite ban on tourism at Ruma and Rowangchhari, which remains in effect. However, the tourists will be able to travel freely in other upazilas of Bandarban, said the notice.
Earlier, the local administration lifted the restriction from Alikadam upazila and Thanchi upazila on November 12 and November 16, respectively.

From October 10, law enforcement agencies started a joint drive against the underground extremists and criminals in Bandarban.
So far, seven extremists and three local suspected criminals were arrested with local arms from the forested hills of Bandarban and Rangamati during the operations.
