SCRF President Ashis Kumar Dey and General Secretary Rafiqul Islam Sabuj placed the demand that includes stopping operation of vehicles that are unregistered, unfit and lack route permits.
They also urged the authorities concerned to set up surveillance cameras at bus terminals and ticket counters as well as on highways. They demanded ending the practice of carrying passengers on the roofs of buses, trucks and trains.
They recommended operating mobile courts across the country to maintain law and order and sought tough action against charging extra bus fare.
SCRF also urged police to crack down on reckless driving, overtaking and other violations of traffic law.
The journalists’ platform requested the authorities concerned to stop three-wheelers from plying national and regional highways, and inter-district roads before Eid-ul-Azha.
The organisation also demanded seamless operation of ferry services on Shimulia-Kathalia and Paturia-Doulatdia routes.
It also sought removal of illegal structures from the Dhaka-Chattogram, Dhaka-Aricha, Dhaka-Tangail, Dhaka-Mawa and Dhaka-Sylhet highways.
