But the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) during the drive found that the traders are not selling eggs at the government fixed price, he said.

Replying to a question, from where the eggs will be imported, the secretary said they can import eggs from any country where the price is low.
Eggs to be imported if required : Minister
Asked whether there is any condition in importing eggs, he said there is no condition but the price of eggs should not be more than Tk 12.
“ Bangladesh needs 4 crore eggs in a day for its consumers and we have given approval of import for one day. I don’t think it will affect the local market or the farmers much,” said Tapan.
Earlier, on August 13, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said the government will allow the import of eggs after consultation with the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry if the price of eggs does not come down.

Hathazari upazila administration and local egg collectors confirmed the release of sample eggs.
The indigenous fish species including Ruhi, Mrigel, Katol and Kalbaush started releasing eggs after heavy rain with thunderbolts due to cyclone ‘Asani’ for the last few days.
Egg collectors and persons concerned were waiting in the river as the full breeding season started from the beginning of May. They are hoping that if there is heavy rain with thunderstorms on the current full moon day, mother fish can start releasing eggs in full swing in the river during high tide or low tide.

In order to build a prosperous nation, it is necessary to ensure a complete, nutritious diet. Eggs are one of the most nutritious foods, Rezaul said.
“We should be careful in ensuring that eggs do not go beyond the purchasing power of the people,” he added.
”Today the average life expectancy of the people of the country has increased. Maternal mortality rate, infant mortality rate have decreased a lot. This has been made possible by the combined efforts of state management and private entrepreneurs to meet the demand for nutritious food,” the minister remarked.
He also noted that the current regime has patronised Bangladesh's livestock sector with utmost importance which resulted in an overall development of this sector.
The Department of Livestock, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), World Poultry Science Association-Bangladesh Branch and Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council (BPICC) jointly organised the event.
