Quoting witnesses, police said 234 health workers of Sunamganj Health Services Department, appointed by outsourcing agencies, have been demonstrating demanding payment of their dues and salaries of 11 month.
But, the Sunamganj Health Services Department has floated a tender for the appointment of health workers through outsourcing on Sunday.
As soon as the news spread, the workers went to the Civil Surgeon's Office and staged demonstration demanding payment of their dues.
They also obstructed the tender floating process.
On information, police went to the spot and tried to disperse the workers.
At one stage, a scuffle took place, triggering a running battle, forcing police to charge baton, leaving 10 people injured.
Civil Surgeon Dr Shams Uddin said: “We've sent the papers of the health workers to clear the payment of their dues to the authorities concerned and I hope they'll get their payment within a month.”
Mizanur Rahman, superintendent of Sunamganj Police, said a scuffle took place between the health workers and police. Police took eight people into custody.
