Dhaka, Oct 5 (UNB) – The Traffic Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) filed some 172,600 cases and realised around Tk 14.19 crore in fine for traffic rules violation in the capital during the month-long traffic safety awareness campaign in September.
The special awareness campaign was conducted as part of DMP’s initiatives to bring discipline on the city streets. DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia formally inaugurated the campaign on September 4.
Sources at the Traffic Division said its members filed cases against vehicles on various charges, including violation of traffic rules, using hydraulic horns, beacon light and tinted glass and plying the vehicles on the wrong side of road.
Of the cases, 13,088 were filed for plying the vehicles on the wrong side while 7,628 for fitness-related problems, 6,495 over route permit, 30,5,64 over driving licences, 65,803 against motorcycles and others for using hydraulic horns, beacon light and other reasons.
