Some of the injured left Kurmitola General Hospital after receiving first aid, he said.
Locals caught car driver Rokibul and handed him over to police. The car was also seized and taken to Cantonment Police Station.
The driver claimed that he hit an auto-rickshaw first and then ploughed into the crowd out of fear that a bus was going to hit his vehicle from behind.
In a similar accident in the same area on July 29, 2018, two first-year students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment School and College were killed after a bus ploughed through some students in front of Kurmitola General Hospital on Airport Road in the capital.
The accident triggered a widespread protest by students, demanding safe roads and seeking justice for their fellows.
