BGB's Ramu Battalion (30 BGB) arrested three drug peddlers with 50,000 pieces of yaba worth Tk 1.5 crore from Cox’s Bazar’s Ramu.
The detainees are Borkhan Uddin, 20, Nurul Azam, 26, and Abdur Rahim, 19.
Lt. Col. Ibrahim Farooq, Commander of 30 BGB, said acting on information of drug smuggling through the Ramu bypass, intensified their vigilance around the Maricha joint checkpost on Tuesday and recovered 50,000 Burmese yaba pills under the seat of the mini pickup van of Borkhan Uddin at around 11am.
Later on the basis of the information gleaned from the pickup van driver, a BGB team managed to arrest Nurul Azam and Abdur Rahim from Ramu football ground when they came to collect the pills.
BGB came to know from them that the ultimate owner of these yaba pills were drug dealer Md. Shakil, 30, living in the Chaumihini area.
However, BGB could not arrest him during a raid at his home as he managed to escape before the BGB team arrived.
Besides the yaba, a pickup van and five mobile handsets were sized worth of TK 1.6 crore in total, confirmed the BGB sources.
