Approximately 34kg of gold was seized from a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight at Sylhet MAG Osmani International Airport on Friday morning.
Following a tip-off, customs officials searched the Biman flight BG 248 upon its arrival from Dubai and confiscated specially wrapped gold bars hidden beneath seats on the aircraft.
Assistant Commissioner Sajedul Karim of Osmani Airport Customs confirmed the matter.
The seized gold consists of 280 bars, weighing 32.76kg, and six gold-coated eggs totaling 1.59kg. The market value of the confiscated gold is estimated at Tk35 crore, he said.
The aircraft departed for Dhaka after the initial search, and further examination may occur there.
The joint efforts of National Security Intelligence, Customs, and Excise Intelligence led to the recovery of the gold consignment.
Customs officials are currently in the process of filing a case over the matter.
