Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Md Mahbub Ali has disclosed a plan to launch direct air connectivity between Sylhet and Chattogram (CTG), extending to tourism hotspot Cox’s Bazar (CXB), by June.
“Sylhet is a tourism-rich area. The government is taking various steps to develop the tourism industry here. An initiative is being taken to operate flights on the Sylhet-Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar route by June this year,” he said at a views-exchange programme at a city hotel here on Wednesday.
He also revealed that steps were being taken to upgrade the Saidpur Airport to an international one. Besides, five more aircraft would be inducted into the fleet of national flag carrier Biman by June.
Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry organised the programme where Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury and Sadar Upazila Chairman Ashfaq Ahmed, among others, were present.
