"The government is taking several projects to ensure food security, ecological development and to tackle air pollution," Razzaque said, at an international conference organized by the Environment and Forest Affairs Sub-committee of AL at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building of Dhaka University (DU).
The Minister also said, “Bangladesh was once labelled the 'bottomless basket', model of the poorest country in the world but fortunately today I’m happy to note that Bangladesh is a model of economic and social development.”
“Ecological issues are not a national or regional problem, it’s now emerged as the world’s worst problem. World leaders have to work together to confront the challenge,” he added.
Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the conference titled “Environmental solution for sustainable development: towards developed Bangladesh” and said, “Ecological development is the crying need for sustainable development. We need to secure green environment by reducing carbon emissions."
“This conference will help Bangladesh to gain SDGs (sustainable development goals) by 2030. It is an interaction programme between academicians and politicians to do better to save our environment,” VC stated.
Awami League office secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap MP and DU Chemistry Department Prof. Md. Aftab Ali Shaikh also addressed the programme.
Secretary of the Forest and Environment Affairs Sub-committee of Awami League Delowar Hossain conducted the conference while Prof Bozlul Haque Khandakar chaired the programme.
Scientists working on environmental issues from more than 20 countries participated at the conference. Moreover, hundreds of students, academicians and researchers were present at the conference.
