The treasury bench member made the demand joining the discussion on the thanksgiving motion on the President’s speech in the House.
“I think the voting date on the day of Saraswati Puja as fixed as part of a conspiracy. The Hindu people cast their votes for Boat (AL electoral symbol). It was done to keep Hindu voters busy with the puja festival on the election day,” he said.
Pankaj also said rescheduling of the polls can be done through the executive order of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina or through a court verdict as a petition was filed with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court over changing the voting date.
The High Court on Tuesday turned down a writ petition seeking its directive to defer the elections to the two Dhaka city corporations.
It passed the order considering the progress in the election process and the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination scheduled to begin on February 2.
