Algeria's acting President Abdelkader Bensalah made the announcement during a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday at the bilateral booth of Baku Congress Center where the 18th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is taking place.
Briefing reporters, Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque said there was an Algerian mission in Bangladesh but it was shut down. “This will be reopened,” he said.
He mentioned that the acting Algerian President said his country thinks that Bangladesh and Algeria have potentials in trade and business. "The Algerian President thinks that both countries have the same position in many issues including political," he said.
Shahidul said Algeria wanted to increase its trade and business with Bangladesh. "So, they’ll reopen their resident mission in Bangladesh," he added.
The Prime Minister congratulated Algeria for their decision to reopen their mission. "We’ll provide all sorts of help and assistance in this regard," she said.
She recalled the visit of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to Algeria to attend the NAM summit in Algiers and her visit to Algeria.
