Mizanur Rahman, an assistant teacher at Nauri Ahmadiyya High School, has resigned following intense protests by students.
On Saturday afternoon (August 24), Rahman cited personal reasons in his resignation letter and left the institution.
In a related development, the school's headmaster, AKM Tajul Islam, has also been placed on indefinite leave.
Investigations revealed that Mizanur Rahman had been involved in incidents of sexual harassment, misconduct involving women, and several corruption cases. These issues came to the attention of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the general student body. The students organized protests within the school premises, demanding Rahman's removal. Faced with mounting pressure, Rahman submitted his resignation.
After accepting his resignation, a team from the army, along with the school committee’s president and UNO Aki Mitra Chakma, as well as Officer-in-Charge Md. Alamgir Hossain, arrived at the scene and escorted the resigning teacher Mizanur Rahman from the premises.
Additionally, under pressure from the students, Headmaster AKM Tajul Islam provided a written commitment stating that he would remain on leave indefinitely until the issues were resolved.
