Science and Technology Affairs Minister Architect Yeafesh Osman placed the Bill and it was sent to the respective parliamentary standing committee for further scrutiny. The committee was asked to submit its report within 45 days.
As per the proposed law, a 10-member governing body, headed by a chairman, will run the council. The chairman will also be the Chief Executive Officer of the council.
There will also be an advisory body, headed by the Science and Technology Minister for the research council.
Meanwhile, another bill titled ‘Bangladesh Lighthouse Bill, 2020’ making the existing the Lighthouse Act, 1927 as a time-befitting one was placed in parliament.
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury placed the Bill and it was sent to the respective parliamentary standing committee for further scrutiny. The committee was asked to submit its report within 10 days.
As per the bill, there will be a port lighthouse authority to supervise and run the country’s port lighthouses.
The levy (charge) collection process of lighthouses has been made easier in the bill.
