The Bangladesh Flag Vessel (Protection) Bill, 2019 was passed in Parliament on Tuesday with a provision for the local vessels to carry increased cargos of 50 percent from the existing 40 percent.
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury moved the Bill and it was passed by voice vote.
Three changes have been made in The Bangladesh Flag Vessel (Protection) Act, 2019 with provisions for the vessels to carry 50 percent cargos from the existing 40 percent; fixing 30 days for making an appeal by an aggrieved person and Tk 5 lakh as the highest administrative punishment in case of floating the law.
The vessels registered with Bangladesh are called Bangladesh flag vessels.
The ‘Bangladesh Flag Vessels (Protection) Ordinance 1982’ was promulgated on June 28, 1982 and following the Supreme Court order, some changes were brought to it. The government has turned the ordinance of 1982 into an act following the order of the Supreme Court.
