This is for the first time that the BNP MPs staged a walkout in the 11th parliament.
 
Speaking on the point of order, BNP MP M Harunur Rashid said even the chief election commissioner ruled out the scope of the involvement of MPs in any local government election.

However, the ruling AL formed two coordination committees for its candidates in the elections to Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), led by its two senior MPs.
 
In reply, treasury bench MP Tofail Ahmed, coordinator of the DNCC committee, said BNP never recognises any election as free and fair until its candidate wins it.
 
He said as per the Election Commission’s electoral code of conduct, MPs are not allowed to get involved in the campaign for any candidate in local government elections.  
 
Tofail termed it ‘ridiculous’, saying government beneficiaries cannot take part in the election campaign as per the code of conduct. “But, MPs are not such kind of beneficiaries,” he said.   
 
Later, AL MP Amir Hossain Amu, coordinator of the DSCC committee, also criticised the BNP MP for raising such a tiny issue in the House.

He also said it is the tradition of BNP to make any election controversial. “Before the announcement of the election schedule for Dhaka city corporations, they (BNP) alleged that polls would not be held in a free and fair manner,” he said.
 
At this stage, Harun and BNP MPs M Zahidur Rahman, M Mosharraf Hossain, M Aminul Islam and Rumeen Farhana started shouting, saying the two AL MPs are talking about irrelevant matters.
 
They demanded the Speaker intervene in the matter.
 
When their plea was not entertained, the BNP MPs staged the walkout.
