While addressing a colloquium titled ‘Relations between EU and Bangladesh’ at the RC Majumdar Arts Auditorium of Dhaka University, she also said new aspects of relationship, including such field which was never before on the agenda, would be ventured.
The DU Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) department organised the colloquium.
The EU envoy also mentioned that Bangladesh has made a lot of progress in the field of labour rights but further progress is needed.
She also said they are supportive to the goals of Bangladesh’s graduation from the group of least developed countries (LDCs) by 2024. “It’s a very ambitious development agenda. Foreign Direct Investment plays a key role here,” she said.
The head of EU mission suggested that whilst there was no shortage of law or policies in Bangladesh to regulate trade and investment, the main difficulty was lack of their effective enforcement.
Presided over by MCJ department Chairperson Prof Kaberi Gayen, Social Science faculty Dean Prof Sadeka Halim also spoke at the event.
