A court here on Monday sentenced a policeman to life imprisonment in a drug peddling case.
The convict is Sheikh Azam, 40, a former traffic inspector of Jhenaidah district. He is the son of Ali Ahmad Sheikh of Pachuria village under Lohagara Thana in Narail district.
The court also fined him Tk 5,000, in default; he will have to serve three more months of imprisonment.

Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Sanowar Hossain said that on December 26, 2017, a sawmill worker named Mojibur Molla sustained injury in a motorcycle accident on Dhaka Khulna highway on the west side of Madhukhali railway gate in the district.
The convict Sheikh Azam was the motorcyclist and he tried to flee the spot after the accident but locals caught him and handed him over to the police.

When searched, police subsequently seized 82 bottles of phensedyl from his possession.
Later, police filed a case under the Narcotics Control Act in Madhukhali Police Station.
On May 7, 2018, Police Inspector Md Mizanur Rahman of the Police Station submitted the charge sheet against Sheikh Azam to the court.
The court acquitted another accused, Nur Alam, who was riding the motorcycle, as he was not involved in this incident.
