The curfew relaxation period has been extended starting tomorrow, Sunday. According to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, the curfew in Dhaka, Gazipur, Narsingdi, and Narayanganj districts will be relaxed from 6 AM to 9 PM daily, a total of 15 hours, until further notice.
The Home Minister made this announcement to the press following a meeting with top law enforcement and intelligence officials at the Secretariat on Saturday evening.
He also mentioned that deputy commissioners (DC) in other districts will decide on the curfew relaxation or enforcement based on local conditions.
The Home Minister convened the meeting at around 7:30 PM in light of the current situation. After the meeeting, he took some questions from the journalists present.
When asked whether he and other officials would consider resigning to improve the current situation, the Home Minister responded, "If necessary... if such a situation arises, and if the Prime Minister deems it appropriate... We always work for the country. We will do so if the Prime Minister believes it is needed."
The question arose from the 9-point demands from students involved in the quota reform protests, who have called for the resignation of the Home Minister and several other ministers.
