Cyber unit teams are working over the leakage of information of National Identification (NID) of some Bangladeshi citizens, said Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Sunday.
“The cyber unit teams are working on it as the NID service is not under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Home Affairs, and it is now under the Election Commission. There are some legal complexities and the service will be under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Home Affairs soon after solving all issues and then we can work with the NID in a full-fledged scale,” he said.
TechCrunch says Bangladesh govt website has leaked citizens’ personal data
The minister came up with the information while talking to reporters after a meeting on law and order situation on the occasion of the 48th death anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, held at the Secretariat.
According to a report of TechCrunch, an American online news platform focusing on high tech and startups, the personal information of some citizens has been leaked from the website of the government including names, phone numbers, email addresses and NIDs.
Trying to identify who leaked a ‘cipher message’ at Foreign Ministry: Momen
Replying to a question, the minister said they have to know about it in detail and then they would be able to give the answers of any question as they will not give any information whimsically.
“We have to scrutinise it—how much information has been leaked and what legal steps will be taken against those who would be found involved in it. We have to investigate the whole thing,” he said.
He also assured of taking steps about the protection of information.
Talking about BNP’s one-point movement to oust the government in August, the minister said: “Vested interest groups including the anti-liberation forces and conspirators have chosen the month of August as it is their favourite month. I think they (BNP) are the ones who know whether they are giving such a signal.”
Technical errors, non-compliance with CERT instructions behind data leakage from govt website: Palak
The people of the country have rejected them as they (people) neither supported the movement of BNP nor assisted them, he said.
“When there is no public involvement in a movement and when people do not join the movement, it is not a movement at all,” he said.
Issuing a warning, the minister said “If BNP is involved in any destructive activity or if they have any plan to kill people, the law enforcing agencies will take care of it.”
