Md Jahidul Islam, sub-editor of the Daily Sun, received the BaBhaSi International Film Award recently in the ‘Journalist’ category.
The award ceremony of the tri-nation, Bangladesh-Bharat (India)-Singapore (BaBhaSi) short film festival, was held at Bishwo Shahitto Kendro in the capital.
Noted media personality Shangkor Shawjal was present at the ceremony as the chief guest while National Award-winning filmmaker Zakir Hossain Raju attended the programme as the special guest.
A total of thirteen were awarded in the programme, including three journalists.
Receiving the accolade, Jahid said, “I’m very happy and feel honoured after receiving the award. I’m grateful to the BaBhaSi festival authorities for this honour paid to me.”
Hailing from Jashore, Md Jahidul Islam started his journalistic career with the Bengali daily newspaper Dainik Samachar in 2010 when he was a student at Dhaka University. He joined The Bangladesh Today as the Dhaka University reporter after that.
He is currently working as a sub-editor of the Daily Sun, one of the leading English daily newspapers in the country.
A total of 120 films from home and abroad were submitted for the international short film festival. Among these films, ten were screened at the festival and 10 finalists in seven categories were awarded at the festival’s closing ceremony.
Shaila Rahman Thithi (Joy Bangla) won the Best Movie award, while Simanto Sajal (Shekol Bhangar Gaan), Sujan Barua (Friend) and Miruj Khan Raj (Neglected) jointly won the Best Filmmaker award.
Sajal Chakraborty (Mullohin Manush) and Mahbub Haasan (Sorry Bhai) have been awarded the Best Scriptwriter award, while Kishore Mahmood received the award for Best Cinematographer (Journey to the God).
Best Actor Award went to Nithor Mahbub (Hridoye Bangladesh), while Tapan Sarkar got the Best Editor Award (Boddho Bumite Ekdin) and Mir Hasan Swapan received the Best Music Director Award (Bhagan).
Along with Md Jahidul Islam, journalists Ruhul Amin Bhuiyan (NewsG24.com) and Saju Ahmed (Dainik Amar Bangla) were awarded at the event, for their contribution to journalism in the country.
