A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked between Department of Environment (DoE) and Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics along to make the process of collecting data related to greenhouse gas emissions, climate change adaptation and mitigation more sustainable and to analyze the data accurately and submit it to UNFCCC in the form of national reports.
The MoU under the project titled 'Strengthening Capacity for Environmental Emissions under the Paris Agreement in Bangladesh' was held at Hotel Intercontinental, Dhaka on Monday, said a media release.
Dr. Farhina Ahmed, secretary to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, said that according to the Paris Climate Agreement 2015, the government is working to prepare a complete, transparent and verifiable database for the energy, agriculture, forest, industry and waste etc. sectors of Bangladesh on a regular basis at the national level.

She said a web-based Bangladesh Climate Change MRV system has already been developed under this project to make data collection related to greenhouse gas emissions, climate change adaptation and mitigation easier, cost-effective and verifiable, where the relevant stakeholders can directly access their data and able to provide input and monitor analyzes made in light of the provided data.
Secretary to Statistics and Informatics Division Dr. Shahnaz Arefin and Director General of DoE Dr. Abdul Hamid were present at the signing ceremony.

Moreover, Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics Director General Md. Matiar Rahman, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Additional Secretary (Climate Change) Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik and various government and non-governmental organization officials and representatives from development agencies were present.
