Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin urged the young generation to commit themselves to nation-building by adopting the ideals of Sheikh Kamal.
The environment minister said while addressing a discussion meeting and prayer ceremony as the chief guest on Saturday.
The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change organised the event to commemorate the 74th birth anniversary of Captain Sheikh Kamal, one of the pioneers of modern sports.
“Sheikh Kamal established himself as an exceptionally talented organizer and entrepreneur in the realms of Bengali culture and sports, all within just 26 years of life. Simultaneously, he was heavily involved in politics,” said the minister.
"If the current generation takes inspiration from Sheikh Kamal's ideals, they can play a significant role in the country's development," Shahab Uddin hoped.
“As an activist and organizer of the Chhatra League, Sheikh Kamal played an important role in the 6-point and 11-point movements, the popular uprising of 1969, and the Liberation War,” he said.
The minister praised Sheikh Kamal's extensive involvement in sports, cultural practices and his establishment of Abahani Krira Chakra, one of the most renowned sports clubs in the country, as reflections of his expansive talent and intellect.
Md. Amir Hossain Chowdhury, Chief Conservator of Forest Department, gave the welcome address.
Earlier in the day, Md Shahab Uddin, on behalf of his ministry, paid tribute to the brave freedom fighter, Captain Sheikh Kamal, by laying a wreath at his portrait located at the Dhanmondi Abahani Club premises.
