He was speaking as the chief guest at an event arranged by Care Bangladesh with support from Proctor and Gamble (P&G) to distribute over 50,000 packs of sanitary napkins among disadvantaged communities affected by COVID -19 as part of HALOW+ Project, said a press release.
GCC Mayor said, “Apart from raising awareness, CARE provided PPE and protective equipment for health professionals at the beginning of the pandemic. I am happy to note that CARE is providing sanitary napkins with the support from Procter and Gamble”.
He added that large portions of urban marginalised women and girls are employed with apparel industry who will be able to maintain standard health and sanitary practices due to such combined efforts of government and non-government agencies.
GCC Ward 12 Councilor Taslima Nasrin noted that due to restrictions most of the women in disadvantaged communities are facing difficulty in buying sanitary products.
“The decline in economic activity has also contributed to the sufferings of people from marginalised communities as well. This support will be helpful for women and girls to maintain hygienic behavior amidst the pandemic situation,” she added.
HALOW+ Project Program Manager Rubayyat Fatema and GCC Chief Executive Officer Aminul Islam also spoke at the programme.
