Loading and unloading activities at Benapole Land Port in Jashore have been suspended since Monday noon, as two factions of the labourers' union locked into a clash over establishing supremacy in the committee.
Three labourers including Banader Labours’ Union President Raju Ahmed, 45, labours’ leader Hashem, 34 and Golam Mostafa, 35, sustained injuries in the clash and are now undergoing treatment at Sharsha Upazila Health Complex.
Of them, Raju is loyal to local lawmaker Sheikh Afil Uddin and the rest are fellows of Sharsha municipality’s former Mayor Ashraful Alam Liton.
Labours and sources in the port said the factions of the union suddenly on Monday noon locked into the clash over supremacy in the committee, leaving the trio injured.

Later, they were rushed to the upazila health complex.
As of filing this report at 5pm, the loading and unloading activities remain stopped.
Belal Hossain, additional superintendent of district police, said an additional number of police and Ansar members were deployed in the port to ward off any unexpected incident.
A meeting among the factions, police and land port authorities will be held after the evening to address the crisis, he added.
