Journalist and communications expert Rafe Sadnan Adel has received an "Special Recognition Award" for his outstanding contributions to cancer awareness.
Dr. M A Hai, president of the Oncology Club, an organization of cancer specialists, handed over the award at "Bangladesh International Cancer Congress" on Friday.

"People from all walks of life must come forward with a spirit of empathy and cooperation to raise cancer awareness," Prof M A Hai said at the event.
Adel received the award for his contributions to cancer awareness through communication strategies in the media.
He has been working on cancer awareness for over a decade, and in 2014, he founded the first Bengali website on cancer, CancerBD.net. He is also a board director of the World Ovarian Cancer Coalition and a member of the oversight committee of the Every Woman Study-Low and Middle Income Countries research project.
"I lost my mother to cancer, I will work on cancer awareness till my last breath. This award has increased my responsibility. I will make every person in this country aware of cancer, InshaAllah," Adel said in an immediate reaction after receiving the award.

A total of 47 researchers and cancer specialists from 11 countries around the world attended the two-day congress.
More than 900 cancer doctors were present during the ceremony. A total of 11 people, including Adel, were awarded at the event.
