One such NGO is Friendship, led by renowned social entrepreneur Runa Khan, which is probably most renowned throughout the country for its concept of ‘floating healthcare’.
The NGO has provided 1100 masks among the police force in Kurigram District on April 19, aiming to protect the police officers who are engaged in the very important frontline work of implementing the lockdown policy prescribed as an important ‘non-pharmaceutical intervention’ by healthcare experts.
The Kurigram District Police Office will distribute these masks to all the Thanas of Kurigram.
Md. Nazmul Hossain, Assistant Project Manager of the NGO’s Inclusive Citizenship programme, handed over the masks to Mohibul Alam Khan, the Police Superintendent of Kurigram, in the presence of other high officials of Kurigram District Police.
Mohibul Alam Khan highly appreciated Friendship’s contribution in this unprecedented crisis and he is very thankful to the organization.
Runa Khan, who still serves as Executive Director of Friendship, founded the NGO in 2002.
Friendship is also making public announcements on safety measures as prescribed by the World Health Organization in the areas covered by their work and installing hand-washing facilities.
Some 1,228 volunteers have been engaged by the NGO to stand by the people in these difficult times, imparting useful information and instilling confidence at the grassroots level.
