The healthcare assistants of each healthcare centre of GK have been trained to build Covid-19 responsiveness. They are also raising public awareness, said a media release on Saturday.
Grameen Kalyan has published and disseminated a special leaflet on Covid-19.
In Dhaka, the leaflets were distributed among the AGORA super shops and the BKMEA (Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association).
Due to the needed shutdown to prevent the spread of virus, the marginalised communities have in many cases lost daily income sources, said GK.
To reduce their suffering, it said, employees of GK contributed one day’s salary to fund one week’s rations to 875 destitute families.
Each of GK's 138 rural healthcare centres has enlisted six families to provide all with food items for meals, for the duration of the crisis period.
In addition to employees salary, GK will support 1,400 impoverished families from its own fund for the period April to June.
GK said it commits to continue to provide food to destitute families until the Covid-19 crisis is over. It provides primary healthcare services to almost 8 million underprivileged people through its 138 community-based healthcare centres in various regions of Bangladesh.
