The overall number of Covid cases has now crossed 548 million amid a rise in new infections in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
According to the latest global data, the total case count mounted to 548,226,324 while the death toll from the virus reached 6,349,418 Saturday morning.
The US has recorded 88,708,703 cases so far and 1,040,641 people have died from the virus in the country, the data shows.
Over 17,000 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in 24 hours in India, taking the total tally to 43,362,294, according to data released by the health ministry on Friday.
Besides, as many as 13 Covid-19-related deaths were reported in the country since Thursday morning, bringing the total death toll to 524,954.
The daily positivity rate in the country stood at 4.32% while the weekly positivity rate was 3.07%, according to the federal health ministry.

Covid in Bangladesh
Bangladesh recorded another death from Covid-19 and 1,685 new cases in 24 hours till Friday morning.
On Thursday, the country recorded one death and 1,319 cases from Covid-19.
The country recorded over 1,000 Covid cases (1,409 cases) with 11 deaths last on February 25.
The daily case positivity rate declined to 12.18% from Thursday’s 14.32% as 13,833 samples were tested during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The country’s total caseload rose to 1,962,213 while the total fatalities reached 29,135 with the new numbers, it said.
The mortality rate also declined to 1.48%. The recovery rates declined to 97.16% from Thursday’s 97.23% as185 patients recovered during this period.
