The government is committed to protecting the constitutional rights of people of all religions in the country and maintaining communal harmony, said Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain.
He said this after exchanging greetings with members of the Hindu community at the Dhakeshwari Temple on the occasion of Durga Puja on Thursday.
“You can be assured. Security measures have been strengthened. Law enforcement agencies are working. Across the country, volunteers are working alongside the followers of the Sanatan religion to ensure that miscreants do not get a chance to cause trouble anywhere,” he assured the Hindu community.
“People from all communities are citizens of Bangladesh. Everyone's rights in this country are equal. These rights are constitutionally recognised. The government is committed to protecting these rights and maintaining communal harmony,” he said.
“No community can be oppressed or persecuted for religious reasons. If such an incident occurs, the government will bring it under the purview of justice. I can assure on behalf of the government that the perpetrators will be brought to justice,” added the foreign affairs adviser.
“We will never support any crime, and we will not allow any criminal to remain outside the scope of justice,” he also said.
“There was a time when, in the truest sense, there was no governance in the country, and then some incidents happened through a few miscreants, we acknowledge that. The punishment for those crimes will be ensured, steps have already been taken,” Touhid said.
