BNP senior leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy on Tuesday urged the government to send party’s ailing chairperson Khaleda Zia to any country where she can get better treatment.
Gayeshwar said it is the state's responsibility to provide proper treatment to Khaleda.
“Send her to the country where proper treatment is available for her current condition,” he said.
He was addressing BNP’s Khulna divisional rally held to press the release of BNP chairperson for treatment abroad at the party office premises in Khulna on Tuesday.
He rejected as baseless the government’s repeated claim that the country’s law bars Khaleda from going abroad since she is a corruption convict.
Gayeshwar said there is instance of a previous government allowing JSD leader ASM Abdur Rab to go to Germany for treatment even though he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Meanwhile, about apologising to the President for going abroad for medical treatment, He said that Khaleda Zia was not born to apologise.
He blasted Awami League leaders for suggesting that Khaleda seeks pardon from the president so she can get treatment abroad. “Seeking pardon is not in our leader’s blood,” he said.
Khulna Metropolitan BNP President and Central Organizing Secretary Nazrul Islam Monju, BNP Vice Chairman Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury and BNP Chairperson's Adviser Mashiur Rahman were present at the rally among others.
