State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman on Wednesday said the government wants to make the country earthquake resilient like Japan.
For that purpose, old buildings will be repaired, he said during a meeting with a team of JICA (Japan International Cooperative Society) at secretariat, said a PID handout.
The team, led by chief representative Hitioshi Hirata, met the state minister to discuss progress of the various development projects which are being implemented under the ministry financed by JICA.
Enamur also sought financial and technical support for providing required training to architects and engineers of Bangladesh to build earthquake resilient buildings.
The team leaders said Bangladesh is now a role model in disaster management.
He also assured the junior minister about providing necessary financial and technical support to build earthquake resilient buildings.
