Basic Bank’s decision to change its existing salary structure for employees was stayed by the High Court (HC) for one month on Sunday.
The HC also issued a rule seeking explanation why the decision to revise the salary structure should not be declared illegal.
The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by six officials of the bank, said Advocate AM Amin Uddin who stood for the petitioners.
A salary structure of the Basic Bank introduced in 2013 for its 2,100 employees was higher compared to other government banks but it was cancelled recently by the bank’s managing body.
In a Dec 22 letter, its human resources department said the bank has been incurring losses for seven years and is unable to bear the excessive amount of salary and allowance.
