Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed on Wednesday asked the police to remain alert against extortion of money from the traders during transportation of sacrificial animals.

He also instructed police officers to visit the sacrificial animal markets.

The IGP issued the directive on the last day of a two-day (July 5-06) quarterly crime review meeting at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh in the city on Wednesday.

He said the trucks transporting sacrificial animals cannot be stopped or checked without a any specific reason.

He said both police personnel both in uniforms and plainclothes will be deployed in cattle markets across the country.

The IGP said that plying of vehicles like Karimon, Nasimon, Bhatvati will be stopped on the highway to keep the movement of homebound people uninterrupted.

He also directed the field level officials to abide by the government's guidelines for the long-distance movement of motorcycles.

About disposal of cases, the police chief said supervision should be increased during investigation stage. The case investigation must be completed as soon as possible. The quality of the investigation needs to be enhanced, he added.

The meeting was attended by Additional IGs of Bangladesh Police, DIGs of all ranges, Commissioners of Metropolitan Police and heads of other units including district superintendents of police (SPs).

On the first day of the meeting on Tuesday, Additional IG (Crime and Operations) M Khurshid Hossain delivered the welcome address. Later, DIG (Crime Management) AYM Belalur Rahman presented the overall crime picture including murder, robbery, robbery, theft and snatching in the April-June 2022 quarter. Police officers later expressed their views on the nature of the crime.

On the second day, AKM Shahidur Rahman, DIG, Telecom and Information Management (T&IM) Unit, gave a presentation on integrated communication with all police units. The police members can now communicate from any place to the desired place through integrated communication system.
