Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed on Wednesday asked the police to remain alert against extortion of money from the traders during transportation of sacrificial animals.
He also instructed police officers to visit the sacrificial animal markets.
The IGP issued the directive on the last day of a two-day (July 5-06) quarterly crime review meeting at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh in the city on Wednesday.
He said the trucks transporting sacrificial animals cannot be stopped or checked without a any specific reason.
He said both police personnel both in uniforms and plainclothes will be deployed in cattle markets across the country.
The IGP said that plying of vehicles like Karimon, Nasimon, Bhatvati will be stopped on the highway to keep the movement of homebound people uninterrupted.
