Stringent action will be taken against anyone involved in deteriorating the law and order situation ahead of the national election, said Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, Inspector General of Police (IGP) on Sunday.
“Police has the capability to organise a free and fair election as they have the experience of performing duties during election,” he said while talking to reporters after a meeting with high official concerned of Barishal unit police at Barishal Police Lines.
During the election, the law enforcers worked under Election Commission and Bangladesh police will perform its duty as per the directives of the EC ahead of the election, he said.

Replying to a question about the attack on a policeman in Habiganj, the IGP said he personally visited him and inquired about the health condition of the victim.
“If any member of the law enforcement force is injured while performing duty, the world's latest treatment will be given. Action will be taken against the attackers as well,” he said.
