Awami League MP elected from Chandpur Rafiqul Islam on Thursday demanded to increase the amount of various social security allowances.
He made the demand while participating in the discussion of the thanksgiving motion on the President's speech in Parliament.
Islam said that many people are still not getting the social security allowance, old age allowance, disability allowance, husband desertion allowance and widow allowance.
He mentioned that at present the maximum allowance is Tk 700.
“In the current commodity price market, it is not possible to live with Tk 700.”
He demanded to make this allowance at least Tk 2000.
He said many well off people are also getting old age allowance.
“Where all people with very low income or no income are not given the minimum allowances under the Social Safety Net, giving allowances to well-off people raises question about the just-based social system.”
He proposed to stop these and increase the amount of minimum allowance by bringing all those who are eligible.
Earlier, taking part in unscheduled discussions, Opposition Chief Whip Mujibul Haque demanded to take action on noise pollution.
He said that all cars have hydraulic horns and now motorcycles are using Hydraulic horns too.
“It seems that there is no law in the country. Various concerned departments are not implementing the law. It is very important.”
He demanded that concerned authorities, including the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Environment, must look after the interest of the people.
