A series of programmes were arranged on the occasion that included hoisting of the national flag, placing of wreaths at the National Mausoleum at Savar and Bangabandhu Memorial Museum, distribution of sweetmeat and cultural event.
The national flag was hoisted atop all the academic buildings and dormitories of the university in the morning.
University teachers, students, officers and employees gathered on the premises of Aparajeya Bangla and went to Savar, led by Vice-chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman, to pay homage to the Liberation War martyrs at the National Memorial.
Later, the DU teachers paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman placing wreaths at his portrait at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi-32.
DU Pro-VC (Administration) Dr Mohammad Samad, Treasurer Dr Md Kamal Uddin, Proctor AKM Golam Rabbani and Register Dr Enamuzzaman were, among others, present.
Besides, prayers were offered at mosques on the campus and Jagannath Hall Upashanaloy.
DU Music and Theatre Performance Studies department arranged a colourful cultural function at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) auditorium which featured poetry recitation, music and drama performance.
