Planetary Health Academia, a medical education platform established in July 2020 by a group of non-resident Bangladeshi physicians, recently hosted an international scientific conference on the transformation of stroke care at a Sylhet hotel.
The main themes of this conference were "transformation of stroke care in Bangladesh, rapid response to stroke care – management of hyper acute stroke and further prevention, and time is brain and door to needle approach: Saving lives and preventing disabilities."

This day-long scientific event brought together nearly 150 eminent professionals in neurology and had three-panel sessions of experts and speakers from home and abroad.
Health Service Division secretary Md Anwar Hossain Howlader was the chief guest of the event Friday.
"Stroke is a leading cause of death in Bangladesh. Also, it is a major cause of serious disability in adults. Nevertheless, it is also preventable and treatable. Early treatment of stroke with medications and procedures can minimise brain damage," Anwar said.

Deen Mohammad said: "Stroke is one of the top causes of mortality and morbidity around the world. The impact of stroke in Bangladesh is tremendous and devastating. To be honest, stroke is preventable. So, appropriate strategies and guidelines will have to be followed to reduce the burden in the future."
PHA aims to exchange views, reduce the knowledge gap and provide training to junior physicians in collaboration with local expertise. It has over 150 faculty members from the US, UK, Sweden, Canada, UAE, Australia, and New Zealand and covers over 20 different subspecialties.
