Jatiya Party took the decision to give full attention to the party’s upcoming national council and make it a success, said a press release.
On the advice of its policymakers, Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader directed Bablu to withdraw his candidacy, it added.
“Jatiya Party thinks that every leader should play more responsible role in strengthening the organisation than participating in by-elections at this time. So, the party has decided to stay away from by-polls to Chittagong-8 constituency,” the press release reads.
As per the election schedule, Sunday was the last day for withdrawing candidature.
The by-election to the parliamentary seat (Boalkhali), which fell vacant following the death of Moin Uddin Khan Badal, will be held on January 13.
Badal, the executive president of a faction of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasod), was elected MP with Awami League’s symbol ‘Boat’ in the last general election. He died at a hospital in Bangalore, India on November 7 at the age of age of 67.
