Director (deputy secretary) of the public relations department of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat Labannya Ahmed Rinku died on Wednesday in India where she was receiving medical treatment. She was 56.
Her cousin Ershadul Huq Tinku, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cool Exposure, confirmed the information.
He said that she had been battling terminal cancer for the past five years. She underwent a bone marrow transplant last month. But her condition gradually deteriorated due to post-operative complications. She passed away on Wednesday at 1:58 pm (Bangladesh time) while on life support at Tata Memorial Hospital, Kolkata, India.

She is survived by three sons and many friends.
“Her body is expected to reach Dhaka on Thursday and she will be buried at Azimpur graveyard in the capital,” Tinku said.
Labannya Ahmed was well known in the field of media as a responsible, efficient and experienced public relations officer in her professional life. She had been involved in various social organisations and has worked for public welfare.
She was also involved in presenting programmes as well as in news broadcasts in the Bangladesh Television and the Bangladesh Betar.

Her father Nasir Ahmed is the president of Bangladesh Armed Dealers and Importers Association and her mother Shahensha Begum is the sister of two prominent figures in the history of Bangladesh--Zahir Raihan and Shahidullah Kaiser
She was born in 1967 in Daroga bari of Bara Machua village in Pirojpur district.
