Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on Saturday night said the recently launched "July Shaheed Smriti Foundation" will stand beside the injured and families of martyrs with assistance, addressing issues of 200-300 people each week.
"They started working from September 12 and so far they stood beside 91 injured persons and a family of a martyr, spending around Tk 85 lakh," he told reporters at a media briefing at the Foreign Service Academy.
Chief Adviser's Special Assistant Mahfuj Alam and Deputy Press Secretaries Apurba Jahangir and Abul Kalam Azad Majumder were also present at the media briefing.
The Foundation was formally launched with Tk 100 crore in donations received from the Chief Adviser's relief and welfare fund to help those who were injured or sacrificed their lives during July-August mass uprising.
An organisation donated Tk 1 crore for the Foundation, Alam said, seeking donations from individuals and organisations.
Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus handed over a cheque of Tk 100 crore to the “July Shaheed Smriti Foundation” from his relief and welfare fund at a ceremony held at the State guesthouse Jamuna last month.
They urged people from all walks of life and Bangladeshis living abroad to come forward and donate for the Foundation.
Activities like providing emergency financial support to the injured, archiving and documentation works honoring the memories of martyrs, long-term rehabilitation, mental health and counseling and global advocacy and awareness programs will be implemented with the support from the Foundation.
There are 20,000 plus injured while the number of martyrs is over 800.
Earlier, the Foundation was formed with Chief Adviser Prof Yunus as its President and Shaheed Mir Mugdho's twin brother Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho as secretary.
Besides, a seven-member executive council has been formed for this Foundation.
