In a condolence message, GM Quader, also the Deputy Opposition Leader in Parliament, said, “The contributions that Kalidas Karmakar made to the practice of art and culture in the country is unparalleled.”
He said Kalidas, who had a unique record of holding 71 art exhibitions at home and abroad, brightened the country’s image through his experimental works in different countries, including in India, Poland, France, Japan, Korea and the USA.
“Kalidas Karmakar will remain as the idol for the new generation of artists,” Quader observed.
Quader prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed his profound sympathy to his bereaved family members.
In another condolence message, Jatiya Party Secretary General and Opposition Chief Whip Moshiur Rahman Ranga also condoled Kalidas’s demise.
Kalidas Karmakar, a painter and printmaker of international repute, passed away on Friday afternoon at the age of 73.
He was awarded the Shilpakala Padak in 2016 and the Ekushey Padak in 2018 for his contribution to fine arts.
