The authorities at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) have withdrawn suspension of its 37 students over their alleged involvement in violence in February.
Besides, the residential halls of KUET are set to reopen on Wednesday evening.
The decision to withdrew the suspension order and reopen the halls was made during the 102nd emergency meeting of the university syndicate held in the morning, said a notice signed by Registrar Md Anisur Rahman Bhuiya following the directives of the Vice-Chancellor.
According to the notice, the syndicate’s 101st emergency meeting on April 14 had previously decided to resume all academic activities from May 4, with residential halls reopening on May 2.

However, in light of today’s 102nd syndicate meeting, the reopening of the halls has been brought forward to this afternoon, instead of May 2.
Earlier, on April 13, students of KUET staged demonstration and sit-in programme on campus demanding the immediate reopening of the halls.
Despite this, the university authorities initially decided to reopen the halls on May 2.
After spending two nights under the open sky, students forcibly entered six male dormitories on April 15 by breaking open the locks.
Female students also entered their dormitories in the same way.
Earlier, in the day, students of KUET vowed to continue their hunger strike even after Education Adviser CR Abrar met them and tried to resolve the issue.

On April 15, KUET authority suspended 37 students in connection with the violent clashes that erupted on campus in February this year.
The decision was taken during an emergency syndicate meeting.
Alongside the suspensions, the university authorities also announced that academic activities will resume on May 4, with residential halls set to reopen on May 2.
But, protesting students have rejected the decision, vowing to continue their sit-in in front of the administrative building until the halls are reopened.
