A man and his child were dead and two people were injured in a landslide caused by heavy rains in Sholoshahar area of Chattogram early today.
The deceased Md Sohel, 35, and his daughter Bibi Jannat, 7, were residents of IW Colony — for low income families — in Sholoshahar area.

Locals said the port city experienced heavy rains on Saturday night and early today which caused the landslide in the area. A heavy chunk of a hill fell on Sohel’s tin-roofed house when they were asleep.
Nur Alam Ashiq, in-charge of Chattogram Medical College Hospital police outpost, said two people who sustained injuries in the landslide were brought to the hospital where physicians declared them dead around 7:35 am.

According to Chattogram Fire Service Control Room, on getting information of a landslide, a team rushed to the spot and rescued four people from under the debris of a house and sent them to hospital.
Deaths due to landslides in the hilly Chattogram, Rangamati, Bandarban, Khagrachhari and Cox’s Bazar during the monsoon are reported every year.
