Two varieties of mangoes-Langra and Ashina of Chapainawabagnj, a well-known district for plentiful production of mangoes, got recognition as Geographical Indication (GI) product.
Dr Mokhlesur Rahman, chief scientific officer at Horticulture Centre of Chaipainawabganj, confirmed the matter.

He said that they, on behalf of the horticulture centre, appealed to the Department of Patents, Designs, and Trademarks (DPDT) of the Ministry of Industries for the recognition of the two varieties of mangoes earlier.
After evaluation and examination, the authorities concerned finally recognised the Langra and Ashina mangoes as the GI products on June 25, he said.

The scientific officer hoped that they would receive the recognition certificate within a few days.
